Welcome to Old Crooked Path

Welcome to Old Crooked Path

Ancient Wisdom. Earth Honored. Paths Remembered.

There are places on the internet that promise quick answers, instant results, and easy solutions.

Old Crooked Path is not one of them.

This journal was created from a belief that traditional knowledge deserves to be preserved with care, explored with curiosity, and shared with respect. Whether that knowledge comes from an old herbal, a family story, a village tradition, or a weathered history book, it carries with it the voices of those who came before us.

Here you'll find articles about herbalism, folklore, history, practical magic, and traditional ways of living. Some subjects are rooted in documented history. Others explore customs and beliefs that have been passed from one generation to the next. Each is presented with the understanding that history, culture, and tradition often overlap, and that learning begins with asking thoughtful questions.

Old Crooked Path is not about chasing trends or collecting aesthetics. It is about slowing down long enough to understand why people carried rosemary at weddings, why certain herbs were planted near cottage doors, why a lantern was left burning in the window, or why every culture developed its own ways of marking the changing seasons.

Knowledge becomes more meaningful when we understand its story.

You'll also notice something else about this journal.

We do not make exaggerated claims. We do not promise miracles. We do not present folklore as proven science, nor do we dismiss traditions simply because they are old. Instead, we seek to understand them within the time, place, and culture from which they came.

Whenever possible, we distinguish between historical practice, traditional belief, and modern understanding. Each has value when presented honestly.

Alongside this journal is The Old Crooked Path, a small artisan business devoted to creating thoughtfully made bath, body, and home goods inspired by nature and old-world traditions. While the shop and the journal share the same roots, this space exists first and foremost as a place of learning.

Whether you have spent decades studying herbs and folklore or are simply curious about the old ways, you are welcome here.

Pull up a chair.

Pour a cup of tea.

Open a notebook.

The path has been here for a very long time.

We're simply walking it together.
